My two-year-old knows every letter of the alphabet and can read a few words – with loads of help from Starfall!
On rainy days when TV has been banned due to overexposure we sit here for a few minutes. Try the Alphabet site – have your toddler pick which letter he wants to “watch”. Once you get into that section have her find the letters on the keyboard to get to a new page. Make sure you sound out each letter and that your child sees the change from “big” to “little” cased letters. Incorporate the colors. This is what we do: “Sam, pick a letter.” “A? The A is green. Ahh ahh ahh. Ah for apple.”
Also try the lower case letters near the bottom of the main alphabet page and listen to the songs – Sam’s favorite (and mine) is the Upper Case ABC song. Addictive and fun. Even now I have the hippie van song from letter “v” in my head. “Go for a ride in the Starfall van…” You’ll see. You’ll be hooked, too!
Have fun!
